Text Box: July 9, 2008: Interim Report #2 for the feasibility study was accepted by Brevard County. The report included a conceptual design for the multi-purpose reef performed by ASR America and the primary reef site selection prepared by Coastal Tech. The primary reef site was chosen based on its need for erosion control, public accessibility, commercial amenities and suitability for surfing. The primary site chosen for the purposes of the feasibility study was Osceola Lane (between the Pier and Sheppard Park) in Cocoa Beach. The reef site could change during the detailed design phase based on technical and economic considerations.

April 16, 2008: Interim Report #1 for the feasibility study was accepted by Brevard County. The report included a detailed review of existing multi-purpose reefs performed by ASR America and the preliminary reef site selections prepared by Coastal Tech. Three preliminary sites were chosen based on their need for erosion control, public accessibility and commercial amenities. The three sites chosen for further consideration were: 
	
	1. Osceola Lane (between Pier and Sheppard Park), Cocoa Beach 
	2. Lori Wilson Park, Cocoa Beach
	3. The Boardwalk, Indialantic

November 27, 2007: The Brevard County Commission unanimously approved funding for the Multi-Purpose Artificial Surfing Reef feasibility study! The contracts should be finalized in the next few weeks. 

November 20, 2007:  The Brevard County Commission will vote on funding for the Multi-Purpose Artificial Surfing Reef feasibility study on Tuesday, November 27. The total cost of the feasibility study is $82,500. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has already approved their 50% matching funds for the study. The County Commission must approve the other $41,250 for the study to begin. This is the last step before real work can begin on the reef project. Please contact your County Commissioner and urge them to vote YES on the Multi-Purpose Artificial Surfing Reef feasibility study. The link to the County Commission has been provided below. November 8, 2007: The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has approved the matching funding for the feasibility study. The study must now go before the County Commission for final approval and funding.  
November 7, 2007: John Hearin hosted a public meeting on the Space Coast Reef Project at the Cocoa Beach City Hall. The meeting was recorded and will be replayed on Public Access TV Channel 1.

August 23, 2007: The county committee approved the Feasibility Study statement of work (SOW) submitted by the team of Coastal Tech, ASR Limited and Surfbreak Engineering. The SOW has been forwarded to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for review and approval. The approval process is expected to take several months.
June 1, 2007: The county committee selected Coastal Tech of Vero Beach to be the prime contractor for the feasibility study. The committee also stipulated that ASR and Surfbreak Engineering of Melbourne be included as sub-contractors for the study. The committee will meet again on June 29 to discuss the details of the contract. 
May 16, 2007: The other competing firms made their presentations to the Brevard County selection committee. The committee will meet again on Friday June 1, 2007 to decide which team is the most qualified to perform the feasibility study on Multi-purpose Artificial Surfing Reefs.

April 18, 2007: The Space Coast Reef team, Harris-ASR, submitted our proposal and statement of qualifications for the feasibility study on multi-purpose artificial surfing reefs to the Brevard County Council.
March 22, 2007:  The Brevard County Commission released a request for proposals (RFP) for a feasibility study on multi-purpose artificial surfing reefs. The deadline for proposals is April 18, 2007.

October 31, 2006: The Brevard County Commission voted unanimously to fund a feasibility study on multi-purpose artificial reefs. The County will release a request for proposals soon.   
September 27, 2006: The Brevard County Tourism Development Council voted unanimously to recommend that the County Commission fund a feasibility study on multi-purpose artificial reefs. 
June 26, 2006: The Brevard County Beach Improvement Committee voted to present the Space Coast Multi-Purpose Artificial Reef to the Tourism Development Council. 
June 13, 2006: The Cocoa Beach City Commission hosted a workshop on the proposed Space Coast Multi-Purpose Artificial Reef. Dr. Kerry Black, Dr. Lee Harris and John Hearin made presentations and answered questions from the commissioners and the general public.
June 4, 2006: The Florida Today newspaper carried a story on the Space Coast Multi-Purpose Artificial Reef on the front page of their Sunday edition
March 2, 2006: John Hearin presented his preliminary design proposal for the Space Coast Multi-Purpose Artificial Reef to the Cocoa Beach City Commission.
February 9, 2006: John Hearin presented his preliminary design proposal for the Space Coast Multi-Purpose Artificial Reef to the Sebastian Inlet Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
